Care home residents’ relatives are treated as key workers in new testing scheme

Posted on

Care minister Helen Whately has reported that the Government are launching a pilot scheme allowing relatives of care home residents to be treated like key workers. Charity Age UK have stated that people have been dying of ‘sadness’ because of being unable to see loved ones for long periods of time. This scheme aims to refute this by introducing people to regular testing which allow them to visit their family more.

Katie reiterates that “Visiting is incredibly important for residents and their families and care homes. I really want us to enable visiting but it must be safe”. She also highlighted the importance of making staff work in only one care home to avoid increasing the infection rate.
